A 25-year-old man, Olamide Fatumbi, was on Friday arraigned by the police before a Lagos State Magistrate Court for allegedly assaulting his three-year-old daughter by beating her up with slaps.
The defendant, who resides at Afeez Street, Akesan, Igando, Lagos State, is charged with assault and causing grievous harm.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 9 at his residence.

Iberedem said that the defendant beat her up and caused grievous harm to his daughter’s body.
“He subjected the three-year-old to torture and degrading treatment by beating and hitting her head against a sewing machine,” he said.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 172, 173, and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and punishable under Section 10 of the Child’s Rights Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Kubeinje adjourned the case till June 25 for mention.
