Police Arrest 30 Thugs During Maulud Celebration, Recover Arms, Hard Drugs
Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested 30 suspected thugs during the Maulud celebration in Minna, the state capital.
The command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the arrests were made across different locations between 7am and 9pm on Saturday.
According to him, the suspects were picked up from Angwan-Sarki, Limawa, Angwan-Daji, New Market, Sabon-Gari, Kuta Road, Obasanjo Complex, Ogbomosho Street, Lagos Street, and Central Roundabout, all within Minna metropolis.
Abiodun identified some of those arrested as Zahradeen Ibrahim, popularly known as Lagos boy, of Lagos Street; Dauda Usman of 123 Quarters; Abubakar Ibrahim of Kpakungu; Bashir Safiyanu of Sabon-Gari; Ashiru Rabiu of Barkin-Saleh; and Abba Musa of Angwan-Mahuta.
He said items recovered from the suspects included three knives, three cutlasses, one iron rod, a pair of scissors, quantities of cannabis, a shisha apparatus, and other illicit chemical substances.
“All the suspects are under investigation and will be charged in court for thuggery at the conclusion of the inquiry,” the police spokesman stated.
The command also confirmed the arrest of one Muhammad Usman, a suspect from Kwara State, who was found in possession of two locally fabricated guns and six rounds of live ammunition.
Usman reportedly confessed that he purchased the weapons at Soba village via Kaboji, Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State, for N180,000 each, while the ammunition was bought for N5,000 from an unidentified supplier.
Abiodun assured residents that the police remained committed to curbing thuggery and other criminal activities in the state, especially during public gatherings and religious events.
