Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ekiti State have arrested five suspected drug dealers during a raid in Ado-Ekiti.

The suspects, identified as Jamiu Yekini, Oluseyi Pelumi, Balogun Seun, Babalola Afeez and Tobi Sunday, were apprehended at Atikankan, a known black spot in the state capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, disclosed that the operation was carried out as part of the command’s ongoing crackdown on illicit drug dealers, abusers and other criminal elements across the state.

According to him, operatives from the Ado Central Division conducted coordinated raids on identified black spots at Atikankan and Okebola areas of Ado-Ekiti, leading to the arrest of the suspects.

Abutu said items recovered from the suspects included wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, tramadol, Colorado, cash and other illicit drugs.

“The raid was conducted in view of the ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure a peaceful environment for residents,” he said.

He added that the suspects had confessed during preliminary investigation to being involved in the sale and consumption of illicit drugs.

The police spokesman said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the group.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Falade Michael, urged parents and guardians to caution their wards against engaging in unlawful activities.

He also advised youths to pursue legitimate means of livelihood, warning that the command would remain resolute in tackling all forms of criminality in the state.

“The command will continue to be tough on all illegal practices to ensure the safety and security of residents,” the commissioner said.
