Police Arrest Suspected Secessionist Group Member, Recover Firearms
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Friday Nnamdi Anyikame, suspected of belonging to a proscribed secessionist group, during an early-morning intelligence-led operation in Ihiala Local Government Area.
In a statement on Friday, the state Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, apprehended the suspect and recovered two pump-action guns and 29 live cartridges.
“The arrest followed heightened security surveillance and raid operations ordered by Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu across the state,” Ikenga stated.
Ikenga added that Anyikame confessed during interrogation to being an active member of an armed group and revealed that he operated from a criminal camp in Ogbaru LGA.
The CP commended the operatives for their swift action and ordered intensified security surveillance and targeted raids across Anambra.
He assured residents that the police were closing in on other fleeing members of the group and were determined to dismantle their criminal network.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and provide timely information to support ongoing operations.
