Police Arrest Two Robbery Gang In OsunOperatives of Osun State Police Command has arrested a gang of two armed robbers operating within the Osogbo metropolis, using a motorcycle.
The suspects included Adesina Hammed, 29 years, and Oyeladun Iyanu, 28.
The suspects with two others yet to be arrested, armed with cutlasses, had reportedly accosted their two men, whose further identities were not given by the police, around Olaiya Area of Osogbo around 7:30 pm on June 5.
The the command in a statement on Thurday, signed by its spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said the gang operating with a motorcycle, having successfully stopped their targets, who were also on a motorcycle marched their victims to a Point of Sale operator, where they forcefully obtained a sum of N400,000 from them.
Opalola further said the suspects robbed their victims of their iPhone 13, which they sold for a sum of N140,000 in Osogbo.
Giving more details about the activities of the suspects in the statement, Opalola further said, “Upon reports and complaints from the general public through various media such as, petition, social media platforms; X(Twitter), Instagram e.t.c, of a brewing crime of kidnapping and forceful extortion of individuals by hoodlums who are now referred to as “mini kidnappers”, the Osun State Police Command has been able to effect the arrest of two suspects named; Adesina Hammed ‘M’ 29 years and Oyeladun Iyanu ‘M’ 28 years who have been terrorising the city of Osogbo.
“The incident happened at about 7:30 pm, June 5, 2024, when two young men were stopped along Olaiya towards Osun mall area by a group of four individuals on a motorcycle and were forcefully robbed of their phone (iPhone 13) with a cutlass, after which they took them to a POS operator to still rob them of the sum of #400,000.
“Upon a tip-off, a team of anti-cultism squad swung into action and was able to apprehend these two suspects with the remaining two gang members still at large.”
In a related development, Opalola also said the command had effected the arrest of a Kebbi State indigene, Yusuf Adamu, who was caught with an electricity cable suspected to have been stolen.
Opalola said police operatives from the Divisional Headquarters ‘B’ Division, Ede, responding to distress calls on June 2, arrested Adamu at about 11:45 pm.
She said people who observed the suspect moving around with the cable at that wee hour alerted the police, adding that the operatives eventually apprehended the suspect, who had since admitted stealing the items.
Declaring a war on the criminals operating in the state, Opalola, said operatives had been given a marching order to arrest all suspects linked to the crimes allegedly committed by those already in the custody.
