Police Arrest Woman For Exposing Alleged Extortion of Students In Oyo
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a young woman who accused officers of extorting students and commercial motorcyclists at checkpoints in Ibarapa North.
The woman, whose video circulated widely online, alleged that personnel of the Nigerian Police Force mounted multiple roadblocks along the Igbo-Ora–Eruwa corridor, where travellers were compelled to pay bribes ranging from ₦20,000 to ₦30,000.
In the footage, she questioned why officers, already salaried by the Federal Government, were allegedly targeting innocent commuters, including students returning home for the holidays.
Family sources said she was detained by the Ibarapa Area Command before being transferred to Ibadan, the state capital. They further alleged that efforts by legal representatives to see her were denied.
Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the allegations or her detention.
