The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, said his men have arrested five suspects in connection with the incessant robbery attacks on students of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, Remo North Local Government Area of the state.
The police boss made the confirmation on the development via a telephone conversation on Wednesday.
Osun Defender had earlier reported a series of attacks on the students and locals of Ode Remo, Ipara, and Isara, all adjoining communities to the higher institution.
In the latest attack on students last Saturday, the robbers shot dead a student, while nine others escaped with varying degrees of injuries from gunshots.
According to the Commissioner of Police, operatives of the command in Remo North Division received a distress call on December 2, at about 3 am, that some armed robbers were on the rampage within their community.
Following this report, the police later tracked a Lexus car stolen during the robbery to the Oke Itoku area of Abeokuta, the capital of the state, where it was recovered.
According to CP Alamutu: “Another Lexus car, discovered to have been snatched at the Ajuwon area of the state by the same gang, was also recovered. Some members of the gang were later arrested through intelligence, while a member of another gang that robbed people of their phones at gunpoint was also nabbed.”
