Police Beef Up Security As Delta By-election Starts

The Delta State Police Command said it had deployed 2,016 policemen to provide security for today’s bye-election to fill the vacant seat for Isoko North Constituency in the House of Assembly.

It warned troublemakers to steer clear of the election as it promised to deal decisively with anyone planning to cause chaos during the exercise holding in polling units and wards in the Isoko North Local Government Area.

The Commissioner of Police, Ari Ali, in a statement made available to journalists on Friday, cautioned political actors in the area to advise their supporters on the need to play by the rules of the game.

Ali explained that there would be restriction of movement in the area at midnight on Friday to 4pm on Saturday.

The Isoko North Constituency seat became vacant following the death of a former Majority Leader of the House, the late Tim Owhefere, on January 27.

The CP, in the statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, “assures all residents that the Delta State Police Command is committed to ensuring the security of everyone in the local government by deploying its officers to all the polling units and also some speculated hot spots in the Isoko North Local government area to maintain peace and calm all through the electioneering process,” he added.
