The Commissioner of Police in the State of Osun, Mr Olawale Olokode, has ordered his officers and men to mount intensive manhunt for the armed robbers that raided Wema Bank and a Microfinance Bank in Okuku, State of Osun.
Olokode, in a press statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, on Friday, said a sum of N600, 000 was carted away at the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at one of the banks.
According to the statement “The CP stated this when he visited the scene, to make an ‘on the spot assessment’. To set the record straight, a gang of hoodlums intercepted a staff of the bank while trying to Lock the rear exit door of the bank, having closed for daily transactions.
“The men of the underworld forced the staff of the bank to open the ATM machines and carted away about #600,000:00 (six hundred thousand Naira) only, from one of them. Attempts to open the other ATM machine and Bank vault was aborted, due to quick response from Police and other security outfits. Unfortunately, two persons were shot while the robbers were trying to escape.
“However Commissioner of Police appeals to the good citizens of the State, especially those residing around Okuku and its environs to collaborate with Police by giving timely information that will assist in arresting the criminal elements, while reassuring the members of the public of their safety, as security measures have been put in place to forestall future occurrence.”
