Police Confirm Arrest Of Undercover Journalist

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of undercover journalist, Bristol Tamunobiefiri, also known as PIDOM.

This arrest was confirmed by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who stated that PIDOM was detained on charges of “committing serious offences that undermine the integrity of government operations.”

He was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) on August 5, 2024, in a hotel room in Rivers State.

The allegations against PIDOM include the unlawful possession and leakage of classified documents, along with other cyber-related offences.

ACP Adejobi assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to address these serious charges.

He also emphasised the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring national security.

ACP Adejobi confirmed that PIDOM will be arraigned in court next week.

Osun Defender reprots that an investigative journalist David Hundeyi had on Thursday raised the alarm that the anonymous whistleblower known as 99% Oppressed, or #PIDOMNIGERIA on X.com, was missing.

Hundeyin raised the alarm in an article titled “SOS Alert: PIDOM NIGERIA Is Missing (And I Think We May Know Who Has Him),” suggesting potential involvement by Nigerian authorities.

According to the journalist, the Ooni scammed the US doctor of $180,000 after the latter expressed interest in building hospitals in some Southwest states in Nigeria.

The acclaimed investigative journalist alleged that the traditional ruler severed ties with the US doctor after he failed to invest as earlier agreed.

But the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Moses Olafare, in a statement by on Thursday 18 July, 2024, refuted the allegations describing it as fake, untrue, and an unfounded allegation adopted as a character assassination tactic aimed at achieving cheap popularity.

“The news as posted by a Twitter (now X) handle called ‘99% OPPRESSED’ is fake, untrue, and an unfounded allegation adopted as a character assassination tactic aimed at achieving cheap popularity.”

The statement further clarified that the alleged Ms. Fagbule was never known to the Ooni for any interpersonal communication or relationship, let alone a marriage proposal.
