Police Dismantle Armed Robbery Gang in Owerri
The Imo State Police Command has successfully dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate that had been terrorizing residents of Owerri North Local Government Area.
According to Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson, “This breakthrough is a result of enhanced security measures initiated by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, targeting violent crimes, especially at night.
“On October 15, 2024, at approximately 3:20 am, a patrol team from Owerri responded swiftly to a distress call about an armed robbery on Dominion Street near Don Kay.
“Upon arrival, the police encountered armed robbers who opened fire on them. The officers, demonstrating bravery, manoeuvred into strategic positions and effectively returned fire.

“During the confrontation, one suspect was neutralised, while another named, Moses Nanzi, ‘m’, 31 years of Faringada in Plateau State, sustained a gunshot injury and was arrested. The remaining gang members fled into the bushes,” Okoye explained
A double-barrelled gun and seven rounds of live cartridges were recovered from the arrested suspect.
The police are still working to apprehend the remaining gang members who fled into the bushes. Okoye noted:
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The suspect will certainly face prosecution upon the completion of a thorough investigation.”
