The Nigeria Police Force has identified officers seen in a viral video receiving money from a Chinese national and has commenced disciplinary action against them.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police described the officers’ conduct as “unprofessional and unethical.”

“The Nigeria Police Force has taken cognisance of a disturbing video making rounds in the media space, showing police officers receiving money from a Chinese national,” the statement read.

“The Force has strongly condemned the conduct exhibited by the police officers in the video, describing it as unprofessional and unethical.”

Adejobi stated that the behaviour of the officers “does not represent the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.”

He said, “The Force has zero tolerance for such unprofessional behaviour and other forms of misconduct, which undermine public trust and confidence.”

He confirmed that the officers involved have been identified and are undergoing disciplinary procedures.

“The Nigeria Police Force hereby cautions individuals and organisations privileged to the services of police personnel, particularly as escorts and guards or other specialised services, to desist from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers and bringing the Force to disrepute,” Adejobi warned.

He also assured the public that justice would be served and said the Force remains committed to reform and accountability.
