Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a suspected robber who stole a trailer loaded with 35 tons of groundnut oil worth about N30 million.
The Command said the Toro Divisional Police headquarters of the state received a distress call reporting the theft of a trailer truck parked at the Maraban Jos trailer park area of Kaduna State on April 12, 2024.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Wakil, in a statement on Sunday, said the stolen truck, a DAF CF 85 Model was coming from Umuahia in Abia State heading to Kano State when it was stolen in Kaduna State.
The truck and goods were, however, intercepted by the Police in Bauchi State.
SP Wakil said police preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the truck had stopped around the Maraban Jos trailer park to take his bath only to return later and discovered that the trailer was missing from where it was parked.
However, according to the PPRO, Police operatives were able to recover the significant amount of goods in the vehicle, including the trailer truck.
SP Wakil added that the suspect responsible for the theft has been arrested and is currently being held for questioning.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Auwal Muhammad, has directed that a discreet investigation be carried out by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on the theft of the truck.
The Police said the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of investigation on the incident.
