About three people were said to have lost their lives on Monday when policemen and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) clashed in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The clash was said to have started when a Police detachment was deployed to Okigwe road to stop members of the group from destroying billboards of candidates of political parties in the area.
However, the IPOB members allegedly attacked the operatives.
According to the Punch Newspaper, a Police source said three members of IPOB lost their lives, while four policemen were also shot and rushed to the hospital.
The Police source said: “We recovered many Biafra insignia from the suspects as exhibits. We will charge them to court after investigation.”
Meanwhile, Dasuki Galadanchi, the state Commissioner of Police said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
Earlier in February, IPOB had urged its members to boycott the February 16 presidential election, just as the group chose that date for a referendum.
