Police Nab Kidnapper Planning To Flee Abroad With N20m Ransom
A 25-year-old suspected kidnapper, Musa Shaibu, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command while allegedly attempting to escape abroad with his share of a N20 million ransom collected after the abduction of a 14-year-old boy in Olodi-Apapa, Lagos.
Shaibu, a member of a five-man kidnapping gang, was apprehended at a filling station near Wema Bridge in Apapa, where he had reportedly gone to collect part of the ransom.
According to Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspect had planned to use his share of the money to relocate overseas.
“Our intention was not to harm the boy, but to collect the sum of N20 million from his rich father,” Shaibu told investigators.
“I would have travelled overseas with my own share of the money.”
Hundeyin said the arrest followed a report filed by the victim’s father on May 1, 2025, after his teenage son, identified as Hassan, was abducted from their residence in Olodi-Apapa.
Further investigations led detectives to a hotel in the Ajegunle area, where the boy was rescued unhurt.
The hotel manager was also arrested and is currently being questioned by the police.
The victim has since been reunited with his family, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
