The Ogun State Police command have arrested two brothers alongside an accomplice for killing a motorcyclist over his Bajaj Motorcycle.

The suspects, Tobi Kodaolu, 20, who is the main culprit; Kehinde Kodaolu, 16 and Ahmed Babalola, 18, were said to have killed one Oni Oluwajuwon because of his Bajaj motorcycle with the registration number Oyo, GMO 513UG in Kila village area of Odeda Local Government.

Tobi, who confessed to the crime narrated how he killed Oluwajuwon, saying that he boarded the bike at about 7:30pm on a Wednesday from his area at Odeda to take him to Kila and that when they got to a bushy area around Iyana Efon village via Orile-Ilugun in Odeda, he ordered him to stop while he got off the bike and then matcheted him five times and then went away with his bike.

When asked why he committed the crime, he said he wanted to use the bike as a means of livelihood.

“I carried the bike from my area to take me to Kila and on to Iyana Efon. I told him to stop then I got off the bike and I started to cut him with a cutlass that I’ve hidden in the overall I wore.

“After that, I told my brother and Ahmed to let us go to live in Abeokuta and continue our life. On getting to Abeokuta at my sister’s place, the police caught us the following day,” he explained.

Ahmed, who worked as an apprentice in one Aluminium shop, also narrated his account of the story, saying that Tobi had made an oath with him and Kehinde his brother that he wanted to do something and that he did not want them to tell anybody or expose him.

“He had called us about three days, after the oath he said he wants to take a bike then I asked, is it installment or what? And he said he wanted to snatch it from someone. At that point, I did not say anything again because he had made us swear to an oath not to tell anyone,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Ahmed Iliyasu, while speaking with journalists said the suspects were caught based on the report made by one Niniola Micheal at Odeda Divisional Headquarters that a body was found dead with machete cuts all over.

Receiving the report, detectives were destined to the scene and order them to fish out the culprit.

Efforts paid off on the 4th of October when the suspects were apprehended in Abeokuta through an enduring synergy with the Vigilante Service of Ogun State.

Iliyasu advice motorcyclists in the state to be security conscious all the time and avoid carrying multiple passengers.

“I want to seize this opportunity to advise Okada riders in the state to be security conscious all the time. They should avoid carrying two or more passengers at odd hours, especially in bushy areas in order to avoid this type of ugly occurrence.”

He also assured members of the public of their safety and security all the time and that they should continue to “have the trust and confidence in us, by availing us with timely information and intelligence.”
