Police Rescue Pregnant Woman Detained By Vigilantes In Anambra
The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a pregnant woman who was detained by the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) in the Okija area for allegedly stealing undisclosed items.
The woman, whose identity was not revealed, was held at a security office following orders from her husband, who accused her of theft.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday in Awka, the state capital.

He said that the police commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, ordered the rescue operation and an investigation after a video of the incident surfaced.
Ikenga added, “CP Itam frowned on the act of detaining and inhuman treatment of suspects by some members of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) in the State.
“He assured that the root cause of the incidents would be addressed to avert future occurrence.
“He also initiated necessary moves with relevant authorities to checkmate the excesses of the few unprofessional AVG members in the state.”
