Police Return Sowore’s Stolen Ray-Ban Meta Glasses After Protest Incident
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has said the Nigeria Police Force has returned his Ray-Ban Meta eyeglasses allegedly stolen during a protest at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Sowore, who disclosed this in a post on his verified social media handle on Tuesday, said the item was stolen by one Aku Victor Chiemerie, whom he described as the “National Thief”.
“Today, the Nigeria Police Force returned my stolen Ray-Ban Meta eyeglasses, stolen by the National Thief, Aku Victor Chiemerie, to me! #RevolutionNow,” Sowore wrote.
The activist had earlier accused a police officer in mufti of stealing the AI-powered eyewear while he and other protesters, including retired police officers, gathered at the Force Headquarters to demand improved welfare packages and the removal of retirees from the contributory pension scheme.
In an earlier post, Sowore alleged that the officer’s superiors were shielding him despite being caught on camera committing the act, and called on members of the public to help identify the culprit.
The protest, which drew participants from across the country, saw retired police officers defying heavy rain to march to the National Assembly and the Force Headquarters. Chants and placards conveyed their grievances over the current pension arrangement, which they claimed had left many of them impoverished after years of service.
