Police Set Dec 3, 4 to Celebrate 70 Years of Women in Policing
The Nigeria Police Force has announced December 3 and 4 as the dates to mark 70 years of women serving in the force.
Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said in a statement on Thursday in Abuja that the event would celebrate seven decades of courage, resilience, and dedication since the first policewomen were enlisted in 1955.
Hundeyin added that the milestone highlights the vital role women play in strengthening law enforcement and fostering community trust across the country.
Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olukayode Egbetokun, will join serving and retired female officers in commemorating the historic occasion.
The I-G praised the invaluable contributions of women officers to the operational effectiveness and public image of the force.
“The dedication and compassion of women in policing have been integral to the foundation of policing in Nigeria. Over the past seven decades, female officers have excelled in administration, investigations, tactical operations, and command leadership, embodying integrity, empathy, and excellence in service to the nation,” he said.
Hundeyin noted that the commitment of women officers has helped redefine policing in Nigeria with compassion and purpose.
Activities marking the anniversary will include a national lecture, historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and an outreach programme.
“The celebration underscores the I-G’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous development for women in policing. The Nigeria Police Force extends heartfelt appreciation to all female officers, past and present, whose courage and professionalism remain a source of pride and inspiration to the institution and the nation,” Hundeyin said.
