The Ogun State Police Command has pledged to prosecute Williams Adetunji, arrested for allegedly selling harmful and unapproved medication that he claimed could treat fibroids.

Adetunji was apprehended following a petition by law firm Roberts Rasaaq Agboke and Associates, acting on behalf of a young woman who reportedly suffered serious injuries after using the purported treatment.

Speaking to journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday, the firm’s lawyer, Hassan Yakubu, said their client sustained life-altering injuries due to Adetunji’s alleged production, marketing, distribution, and administration of substances claiming to treat fibroids and other reproductive conditions—without medical qualifications, regulatory approval, or a licence to practise medicine.

Yakubu identified the products as Enervate Capsules and Tumorex, which are believed to contain caustic soda and other harmful chemicals.

He explained that after using the medication, the woman suffered chemical burns, scarring, obstruction of the vaginal canal, prolonged abnormal bleeding, severe pain, and long-term reproductive complications, necessitating urgent reconstructive surgery estimated at N1.3 million.

He added that other women who used the same substances reportedly experienced similar injuries, including complications affecting the bladder and rectum.

Some victims were allegedly intimidated or removed from online forums set up by Adetunji, who continued distributing the dangerous products.

“Relying on the false claims by Adetunji, our client purchased the medications on 6th September 2023. Upon use, she suffered severe internal injuries, including chemical burns, scarring, obstruction of the vaginal canal, prolonged abnormal bleeding, severe pain, reproductive complications, and long-term physiological effects,” Yakubu said.

He added that medical examinations confirmed the products contained corrosive chemicals, including caustic soda, which caused significant vaginal tissue damage requiring reconstructive surgery, separate from the unresolved fibroid treatment Adetunji falsely promised.

The law firm petitioned the state police in November to investigate, arrest, and prosecute Adetunji under applicable criminal and regulatory laws.

Confirming the arrest, Ogun State Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said Adetunji would be charged once investigations conclude.

“The man is in our custody. I have confirmed this with the O/C of the Anti-Cultism Unit. Investigations are ongoing, and other complainants are coming forward. As soon as the investigation is completed, he will be charged in court,” Babaseyi stated.
