The Nigeria Police Force has announced that nationwide enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy will resume on January 2, 2026, citing rising security concerns linked to unauthorised tinted vehicle glass.

The announcement was made in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.

The police said the decision followed a review of emerging security threats and is aimed at enhancing public safety, pending the final outcome of a related court matter.

The Force clarified that no court order currently restrains it from enforcing the law regulating vehicle tinted glass.

It added that enforcement had earlier been suspended to allow motorists time to regularise their documentation and complete the permit application process without undue pressure.

According to the statement, recent security trends indicate a rise in crimes committed using vehicles with unauthorised tinted glass.

Such vehicles have reportedly been used by criminals to conceal their identities while committing armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent offences.

“Some individuals and organised criminal groups have exploited this gap to conceal their identities and facilitate crimes ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping and other violent acts.

“In view of this, the Nigeria Police Force has found it both necessary and urgent to resume full enforcement as a proactive measure to safeguard our communities.

“Consequently, enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit will resume on 2nd January, 2026,” the statement read.
