Police Warn As Protesters Plan Demonstration At Lagos Secretariat Monday

#EndBadGovernance protesters in Lagos State have vowed to defy a Lagos High Court order and storm the State secretariat, Alausa, on Monday, to seek an audience with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The aggrieved youths also resolved to hit the streets on Sunday to share fliers to communities and worship centres to convince residents to join the protest and grow their number.

One of the protesters announced this on stage on Saturday at the Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, venue of the demonstration which entered its third day.

The protester said, “Some of us here are okay, we can feed our families but what about the people that cannot feed their families? This is crazy. We need to take the bull by the horns. By Monday, if we don’t go to Alausa…. I will go. You will go to Alausa, say yes,” to which the crowd chorused “Yes.”

The protesters also said a worship service would hold on the ground today after which there would be a live band to entertain protesters.

He said, “Tomorrow (today), we will also have a live band. So, after you’ve done your church service here, we’ll have a life band. Tomorrow (today) you’re welcome here, come and do your service. On Sunday, some of our activities are that, as many volunteers as possible, we’ll go into the communities, churches, mosques and distribute 10,000 fliers across Lagos communities.’’

The protester’s decision to hit the streets will however be in contravention of a court order restricting the protest to the Ojota, and Peace Park, Ketu, between 8am to 6pm.

The state government secured the order to make sure demonstrations don’t turn violent and to prevent loss of lives and property in the state.

Reacting to the protesters’ decision to take the protest out of the approved venue, state police command’s public relations officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, warned the protesters.

Mr Hundeyin said, “Be law abiding, We (police) will be courteous but firm, very firm. Do not test our resolve.”

The youth are demanding the reversal of some economic policies of the Bola Tinubu administration which have impoverished the masses.
