Policeman Jailed For Raping A Woman And Filming It
29-year-old ex-special constable Paul Rodgers has been jailed for raping a drunk woman and filming it, after which he edited the video to make it look consensual before he shared it with someone else.
Leicester Crown Court heard that he forced himself on the victim who was so drunk she thought she was having sex with a man she wanted to be her boyfriend. Afterwards the “sex addict”, who visited swingers clubs, sent an edited version of the mobile phone footage to another person making it appear the sex had been consensual.
But on the unedited recording of the sex attack which was played in court the victim could be heard clearly saying the other man’s name. In the unedited video, Rodgers could be heard telling her “No, it’s not, it’s me, Paul.” She replied: “No, no it’s not.”
Rodgers denied raping and sexually assaulting the woman, claiming she consented, but he was found guilty of both charges.
The rape took place in June 2016. The victim had been out with her friends and was very drunk.
Luke Blackburn, prosecuting, said the woman was “extremely vulnerable” on the night the attack took place at an address in Leicestershire.
Mr Blackburn told the jury: “She was in no state to consent and even if she had been, she thought she was having sex with someone else.
“The defendant knew she thought she was having sex with someone else. He carried on because he wanted sex with her, irrespective of consent and to take a recording.”
Mr Blackburn added: “The recording shows he’s the sober one in control and she’s the absolutely drunk one.”
Jurors did not view the footage, but heard dialogue from the recording, with the victim calling the defendant by another name during sex.
The court heard that during the trial Rodgers had blatantly posted an image of a sex toy on social media, which the victim had found out about and was “very upset.” It had resulted in his bail being revoked.
Asides being sentenced to jail, Rodgers will have to sign on a sex offender register for the rest of his life.
