Policeman ‘Runs Mad’, Kills Three, Injures One
Tragedy struck in the early hours of Sunday as a yet-to-be-identified policeman went on a shooting spree at the bustling Watt business area of Calabar, Cross River State, leaving three persons dead and one injured.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the officer emerged from a nearby police station with a cocked gun and, without any provocation, began shooting sporadically.
The sudden outburst caused panic as residents and traders fled the scene for safety.
A source who narrowly escaped the assault saix that the incident was shocking and unexpected.

“I was heading to the market when I saw people running. I turned back immediately. Unfortunately, some were not lucky; the bullets hit at least four people,” the source said.
While some witnesses alleged that the policeman “ran mad”, the exact reason for the shooting remains unclear.
The casualty count currently stands at three dead and one seriously injured. The injured victim is said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The Cross River State Police Command has since confirmed the incident, noting that the officer responsible has been taken into custody.
Through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @CRS_PoliceNG, the command stated: “The matter has been handled this morning, and the inspector is in detention. A press release will be issued shortly.”
However, the police were yet to disclose the name of the officer or officially confirm the casualty figures at the time of filing this report.
Residents of Calabar have expressed outrage over the tragic event, calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the victims.
“This is not the first time we are hearing of such incidents. The police must ensure this officer faces the full wrath of the law,” a trader in the area remarked.
