Former governor of Osun State and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has called for an end to political violence in Osun.

This was as he cautioned the state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, against what he described as persistent blackmail and false accusations over recent security incidents in the state.

Oyetola made the call in a statement by his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola.

The minister who condemned alleged recent attacks on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the incidents as unfortunate and unacceptable in a democratic society.

He stressed that political contests should not degenerate into intimidation, violence or bloodshed.

While urging political actors to embrace peaceful conduct, Oyetola accused Governor Adeleke of repeatedly making allegations against him and the APC without evidence, warning that such actions could heighten political tensions in the state.

“He should stop blackmailing me and stop deceiving the public with false accusations. The people know the truth, and no amount of propaganda can change it,” the minister said.

Oyetola further alleged that attempts to politicise security challenges would not distract from the need to address violence and ensure the protection of lives and property across the state.

The former governor maintained that no amount of propaganda or diversionary tactics would alter the political choices of the people ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

He called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to maintain law and order throughout the campaign period and guarantee the safety of all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
