Youths in Osun State on Monday, demanded that Nigerian politicians should be placed on the same salary scale as average civil servants in the country.
They made the request during the day 5 of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.
Osun Defender reports that the nationwide hunger protest by Nigeria youths was occasioned by what they described as anti-people policies of the federal government.
The demonstration commenced on Thursday August 1, 2024 and is scheduled to hold for a period of ten days. This is despite pleadings by President Bola Tinubu that their cries are heard.
Commencing their demonstrations on Monday, the youths marched from Freedom Park, Olohunkoro, Igbona, Ayetoro, Stadium to Testing ground demanding an overhaul of all policies improverishing the masses.
Reading their demands to journalists, one of the organisers of the protest, Kola Ibrahim said the country has lost a significant amount of the treasury to corrupt politician.
He queried why Nigerian government find hard to prosecute indicted politicians but are quick to nail yahoo boy, submitting that all the three arms of government are involved in the rot.
According to him, “The Nigerian people have agreed that we dont want all the anti-poor policies of Tinubu’s government.
“We agree that it is not only the federal government is corrupt, all the state governments are involved. All the three arm of governments including he legislature, executive even the judiciary are corrupt. You can imagine despite the collapse of the system and the sufferings of Nigerian masses, the court issue an injunction to Lagos, Ogun and FCT that protesters should not go beyond a particular junction to express their grievances. It shows that our judges are not on the side of the masses.
“We know they are all together. But our demands are very clear, we are saying the government should revert the fuel price. We want free education. The student loan they have introduced is nonsense. Everywhere they have implemented student loan in the world has lead monumental suffering. It has lead to indebtedness to all youth.
“What the Nigerian youths need is free eduaction at all levels. Government should give students bursary. Nigeria is capable enough to give all students bursaries. We are demanding that all unemployed youths must be given unemployment allowances. We are saying that Nigeria is abundantly rich to feed itself.
“The reason we can not feed ourselves is because the economic policies are killing the farmers. We want government to reform all economic policies that are killing the agricultural sector sector, we want givern to ebd insecurity which is a major for food crisis.
“We want all politicians to be on the same salary scale as civil servants it will not only save enough money but it will make them aware of what average civil servants are facing on the streets. We are all saying that all indicted policians be prosecuted.”
