Poor Electricity Supply: Osun Community Threatens Not To Pay Bills, Warns IBEDC
Residents of Modakeke in Ife East Area Office of Osun State have issued a stern warning to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) over what they described as the persistent and erratic electricity supply in the community.
OSUN DEFENDER gathered that executives representing the Modakeke Youth Movement, local artisans, traders and residents have declared that IBEDC staff and agents should not demand electricity tariff payments from households, business centres, or any electricity consumer in the community until the power situation improves.
The groups also warned against the disconnection of electricity supply from homes or businesses in the town, stressing that such action would be strongly resisted if carried out under the current circumstance of irregular power supply.
According to the statement, “the directive became necessary due to the continued inconsistency in electricity distribution, which residents say has negatively affected homes, businesses and daily activities across the community.”
Community leaders urged IBEDC officials and field workers to strictly comply with the notice to avoid unnecessary confrontation, while also calling for a more reliable and fair electricity supply to residents.
Meanwhile, IBEDC management in a public announcement on Tuesday, attributed the problem to a direct consequence of reduced energy allocation, adding that it is engaging with relevant stakeholders to facilitate enhanced energy allocation as soon as supply conditions, particularly gas availability to generation companies improve.
