Premier League 24/25: What We’ve Learned So Far

The Premier League season is long, so it would be wrong to make overly bold predictions about how the table might look once May rolls around. Still, you can normally attain some insights early in the campaign. While there’ll be plenty of twists and turns as the season goes on, the early rounds of games tend to reveal who may do well and who may struggle. Let’s take a look at what we’ve learned so far.

Manchester City: As Hungry as Ever

Manchester City may have won four Premier League trophies in a row, but that doesn’t mean they’re ready to take their foot off the pedal. Their comfortable victory over Ipswich in the opening fixture suggested that it’s very much business as usual at the Etihad. Virtually every online sports betting website has made Guardiola’s team clear favourites to win the Premier League for the fifth consecutive year, and it’s not hard to see why. While it’s easy to identify weaknesses in Liverpool and Arsenal’s squads, Manchester City remains the complete package, just as they have been ever since Guardiola took over.

Liverpool: The Show Goes On

Liverpool fans were understandably distraught that manager Jurgen Klopp, a hero on Merseyside, was to leave the club. But if they were worried that Liverpool’s ability to win football games would fall off a cliff, they were very much incorrect. The new manager, Arne Slot, made a great first impression at Anfield, winning football games with style and control. This season’s Liverpool is slightly different from Klopp’s Liverpool, but there are more similarities than differences. For Liverpool fans, the only thing that really matters is that the team continues to entertain and, most importantly, win. And on that front, it’s so far, so good.

Chelsea Chaos

From the outside, it appears Chelsea has little idea what they’re trying to achieve. They just keep signing players and seem ok with letting their homegrown talents leave. But what happens behind the scenes isn’t as important as what happens on the pitch. Unfortunately for Chelsea, it looks as if things might be just as chaotic there. They were convincingly beaten 2 – 0 by Manchester City in their first game and then beat Wolves 6 – 2 in their second game. Fans of the London club should probably expect a season of ups and downs.

Brighton Are Back

Brighton’s bubble seemed to have burst last season. After a few fantastic Premier League seasons, they finished 11th in the 23/24 campaign. More worryingly, they just didn’t seem to play very well. The eleventh position was probably generous.

However, the early weeks of this campaign have suggested that Brighton might be back to their best. They beat Everton 3 – 0 away from home on the opening day before beating Manchester United 2 – 1 in their second game of the season. They’ve got some tricky games coming up, but the fact that they’ve already got plenty of points on the board will give them confidence that they’ll have another great season.

Everton Are in Trouble

This should be a good season for Everton. It’s their last season at Goodison Park before they move to their new waterfront stadium. Alas, it looks as if the club might be in trouble. They were beaten 3 – 0 and 4 – 0 in their first two games, and even more worryingly, they don’t have any money to buy new players. Having escaped relegation in the past couple of seasons, there’s a chance that the club will fall into the Championship this time unless they can figure things out soon.
