Presidency Gives Fresh Update As Tinubu’s Finance Minister Battles Illness
The Presidency has confirmed that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, is currently recuperating in his Abuja home after falling ill.
Multiple sources within the Presidency told The PUNCH on Sunday that contrary to widespread speculation, the minister did not suffer a stroke and has not been flown abroad for medical treatment.
A senior official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly, described Edun’s condition as “a bit serious but not critical,” stressing that he remains under close medical supervision.
“Yes, he’s indisposed. He’s sick, which is a bit serious, but it’s not a stroke. As I’m talking to you, he’s in his house. He has not been flown anywhere. Of course, he might seek medical attention elsewhere if the doctors say it’s necessary. But it’s not true that he has a stroke,” the source said.
Another top government official also confirmed that the minister is being attended to by Nigerian doctors and continues to recover steadily.
“He’s being monitored closely by medical experts. If there’s a need for further care abroad, that decision will be made. But for now, he’s still at home and responding to treatment,” the source said, adding that there are no plans to replace him.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, also confirmed that Edun is receiving medical care in Nigeria.
He urged the public to disregard unverified reports about the minister’s health, assuring that the situation is under control.
