President Buhari Left Behind a Functional Structure- Oyegun

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has left behind a government that is functioning effectively in spite of his absence.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC Mr. John Oyegun stated this during his opening speech at a meeting between the party’s National Working Committee, NWC and governors elected on the platform of APC.

He assured Nigerians that the desire of the president was for the government and the governing party, APC to continue to carry out its duties under the present circumstance.

“What makes me glad is Mr. President’s respect for due process. Because of his deep belief in the constitution of this country, he has left a structure that is functioning very effectively in spite of his unfortunate absence” Oyegun said.

It would be recalled that Nigeria’s President Muhammad Buhari left the country on January 19, for a medical leave which was meant to last for 10 days but later extended his the leave indefinitely.

Mr. Oyegun also said the meeting was for the sole purpose of discussing the forthcoming national convention of the party.

“The purpose of the convention is to allow us as a party and as government to sit down and see how far we have come, what we have done right and access ourselves. It is a mandatory midterm non-elective convention” Oyegun explained.

Non-Elective Convention

The APC set April 29 as the day for its national non-elective convention.

The National Organising Secretary of the party, Mr. Osita Izunasor
stated this while speaking with journalists after the meeting between the NWC and the APC state governors.

He explained the modalities and activities that would take place in preparation for the convention.

“We have mapped out dates for the ward Congress, Local government Congress and state Congress to fill in vacant positions arising from deaths, defections and those who are no longer in the party. It is not in any way a fresh Congress at the state level, it is congresses to fill in vacant positions and to also elect three men delegates per Local Government that will be delegates to the national convention” Isunasor stated.

The chairman of Nigerian governor’s forum, Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State, who spoke on behalf of the Governors, expressed the willingness of the governors to work with the party for the success of the convention and progress of the country.

Out of the 24 governors elected on the platform of APC, 12 were in attendance, two were represented by their deputies.
