President Buhari has named Abuja Expressway After Niger President
The president citing significant role of his Niger counterpart in the promotion of peace in Africa, posited that naming a special road after him in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is a worthy idea.
At a ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, Mohammed Bello, FCT minister, said the expressway will be named after the Niger president, Mahamadou Issoufou for his promotion of peace in Africa.
“Earlier today, the first phase of the on-going Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) in Abuja was named ‘Mahamadou Issoufou Expressway’ in honour of the President of the Republic of Niger, The road was named after the Niger President by President @MBuhari as a mark of deep appreciation for the maintenance of brotherly relationship between Nigeria & the Republic of Niger & in recognition of the Niger President’s significant role in the promotion of peace in Africa.”
In a tweet, Mahamadou said the gesture showed that his relationship with Buhari and that of both countries was “excellent.”
“My brother and friend, @MBuhari, did me the honour to call an Abuja expressway ‘Mahamadou Issoufou expressway’,” he tweeted.
“This testifies, beyond our personal relations, to the excellent relations that exist between Nigeria and Niger.
His caring touches me. I thank him very much.”
Last week, Mahamadou won the 2020 Mo Ibrahim prize for achievement in African leadership.
He is the sixth recipient of the award which recognises and celebrates excellence in African leadership.
