Protest Hits Akure Over Abduction Of Nine Surveyors

A wave of protests has erupted in Akure, the Ondo State capital, following the abduction of nine surveyors by suspected armed herdsmen.
The victims, all natives of Akure, were reportedly kidnapped at Owode Ilu-Abo in Akure South Local Government Area last week.
Aggrieved residents, mainly women, took to the streets on Monday, blocking the busy Oba Adesida Road and demanding immediate action from the authorities.
The demonstrators carried placards with various inscriptions nike air force 1 07 black cool grey racer blue white condemning the rising insecurity in the state.
One of the protesters, Comfort Afolabi, whose brother is among the kidnapped victims, revealed that the abductors initially demanded ₦50 million before raising the ransom to ₦100 million.
She lamented that the kidnappers have refused to negotiate unless the ransom is paid in full.

The state has also been grappling with a series of deadly attacks, with gunmen invading villages and killing several residents.
At least 20 people were reported dead after bandits stormed four communities—Aba Alajido, Aba Sunday, Aba Pastor, and Ademekun—in Akure North Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses claimed the casualty figure could be much higher, as many people remain missing.
