Staff and students of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree (OSPOLY) are protesting the suspension of the rector of the institution, Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo.
The staff under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), OSPOLY Iree Chapter, suspended academic activities at the institution because of the development.
It was gathered that Daily Part Time students of the institution currently writing examinations were also not attended to, leading to protest.
The Chairman of the union, Dr. Fatai Afolabi told journalists on Tuesday that the union did not accept the suspension of Dr. Odetayo, as it was not in line with due process.
Afolabi said the union is holding an emergency congress to review the situation.
Some of the students cchanted protest songs at the front of the institution carrying placards.
“Governor Ti Dawa, Egbe PDP Ti Fowa Je, Awa Union Deyin Leyin Won, Omi Lo Ma Gbe Won Lo” ‘The Governor has betrayed us, PDP has disappointed us, we union members are no more supporting them, water will wash them away,” the union menbers chorused.
Governor Ademola Adeleke had in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Education, Mr. M.A.K. Jimoh suspended Odetayo and subsequently announced Mr. Alabi Adeyemi, as the acting Rector with immediate effect.
