Rayon Sports Appreciate Nigerian Reception Ahead Of CAF Cup Fixture

Players and officials of Rwandan club, Rayon Sports have spoken about their delight at the warm manner of their reception in Nigeria ahead of Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup clash with Port Harcourt-based club, Rivers United.

Rayon Sports and Rivers United face off in a first leg, playoff round clash at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium on Sunday afternoon with a place in the group stage of the competition, the reward for the victors over two legs.

Head coach of Rayon Sports, Masudi Djuma below explained that the he was slightly taken aback by the friendly reception received by the Rwandese contingent.

“Everything has been perfect since we arrived in Nigeria. We have been well treated since we arrived from the Airport in Lagos to Port Harcourt,” Djuma told supersport.com.

“We were slightly surprised at how friendly everyone was even though we have heard about how hospitable Nigeria is.

“We thank Nigerians for their warm reception and we promise to treat Rivers United good when they come to Kigali for the return leg,” he said.

Djuma then discussed his side’s fantastic start to this season’s Rwanda National Football League.

Gikundiro  Rayon’s nickname literally translated as the desirable ones) have made a barnstorming start to the domestic campaign losing just once in their 22 opening league fixtures.

Djuma says four major factors have been largely responsible for the side’s strong start this season.

“The first is God; I trust so much in God. I also believe in myself and I believe in my players.

“Finally, my players all believe in themselves. When you combine these four things plus luck, you become successful.

“We will not think too much about our good form domestically or Rivers’ poor form in the Nigerian league because leagues are different.

“Back home in Rwanda, I know what to do in every game and in every situation because I understand all the opponents but it is different in Caf club competitions.

“Rivers United is at home and it is an advantage to them.

“However, I also know that as the visitors, every minute that passes on Sunday without Rivers United scoring translates into an advantage to us.

“So we have to fight to get a good result in Port Harcourt in order to take an advantage back to Kigali for the return leg.

“There are certain aspects of Rivers United’s play that we will be looking to exploit but that will be my secret,” he said
