Scores of political stakeholders in Ile Ife have congratulated a foremost Governorship aspirant, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola for winning the Osun All Progressive Congress (APC) Governorship Primary election.
The result of the primary election which took place on Friday, was announced by a federal lawmaker, Sen Ovie Omo-Agege, the secretary of the Osun APC Guber Election Primary Committee.
Oyetola defeated other 17 aspirants with 127,017 total number of votes.
His closest rival, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Lasun Yussuff got 21,975 while the Speaker of the State of Osun House of Assembly, Dr Najeem Salam polled 17,958 votes.
However, the former member of the House of Representatives representing Ife Federal Constituency, Hon. Rotimi Makinde, in a statement made available to our correspondent, said that, “as I congratulate our team Leader, Alh Gboyega Oyetola as he emerged Osun State APC 2018 governorship candidate. I must also appreciate all of us who worked assiduously to ensure the first round of the victory.
“The success is the reward for our commitment,unity and collective responsibilities. May the good Lord continue to guide us as we begin the process of reconciliation, persuasion and rigorous campaign to crown our efforts towards the actualization of our dreams which is for our party to produce the next governor of the state of Osun by the grace of God.”
Also, the secretary of APC Ife Central branch, Hon. Olufemi Francis, commended all governorship aspirants, and urged them to uphold the values of the party by joining hands to support Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola in the forthcoming election.
While congratulating with Oyetola, a political analyst in Ile Ife, Comrade Yinka Oderemi, described Oyetola’s track record in the state as a reformist, with a penchant for building educational infrastructure and promoting the welfare of the ordinary people, that will bolster his chances at the forthcoming polls.
He noted that “the successful primaries in the state, with more than 17 aspirants, further validate the credentials of the APC on internal democracy, and its preparedness to take the country to another level of development.”
