Reactions As OAU SU Directs Shop Owners To Reduce Transfer Charges To #10
There have been reactions as the Students’ Union of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, directed all shop owners on campus to reduce transfer charges at #10.
This was revealed in a statement jointly signed by the Students Union President, Abass Akinremi, Welfare Director, Folakan Paul and Secretary-General, Akinboni Opeyemi.
According to the statement, “Sequel to the meeting held with the sellers on campus premises, we had reached a conclusion that the transfer charges imposed on students across our campus premises be reduced to #10 irrespective of the amount of goods purchased.
“Before this meeting, a letter has been passed across requesting the sellers to reduce their charges to #10 which some of you protested. This led to the meeting with which this was agreed upon.
“The Union would like to implore every shop owner on our campus premises to adhere to this as failure to it will attract penalty from the union.”
Reaction
This development has generated reactions from students.
While speaking with our correspondent, a part 4 student from Department of Religious Studies, Mutohir Abdulhameed lauded the Students Union for the reduction.
“I am grateful for this development. It is very good. This will reduce the rate at which the campus traders are extorting us.”
Another student, Elusogbon Olamide from department of English commended the efforts of the Students Union for reducing the transfer charges to #10.
According to her, “I remembered the day I went to buy a charger. I was told to pay an additional 200 naira as transfer charges. I thank the Students Union for reducing the transfer charges to 10 naira.”
