Reedmers University Leaves 100 Law Graduates In Uncertainty Over Non-Accreditation

In a shocking turn of events, Reedmers University, Ede, Osun State has left approximately 100 law graduates in a state of limbo after a graduate of the University identified as @King_folake on X revealed that the institution’s law programme is not accredited.

In a statement on her verified X handle on Tuesday evening, she said, “5 whole years of studying. 5 years of our parents paying fees. All for nothing.

“As students, we did our part. Redeemers University’s end of the deal was to ensure we went to law school. 2 years later and nothing.

“The whole time we were students, we asked questions. They gave us the illusion that they were fully accredited. We paid for law school training because we believed that it would only be a couple of months before we got into law school. And now it’s 2024.

“What makes it worse is that they never communicated. Till today. No word on how or why the things that are happening are happening. No apologies to us or our parents. No guidance on what to do. No clear path on what we’re to do next with our lives.

“We’ve gone through so many phases. Anger? Depression? Our mental health as a collective has been in shambles. And the people responsible genuinely do not seem to care. Imagine putting in so much work for 5 years, only for your degree to be collecting dust on a shelf.

“They have successfully graduated 2 sets of students. Now there are over 100 of us, unemployed, confused, and scared. We have no idea what our future is. And if it is not unfair, the least we can call it is wicked.”

Meanwhile, checks by OSUN DEFENDER on the website of the University claim that Law has been accredited.

It was stated on the website that the National Universities Commission approved full accreditation for 27 academic programmes including Law for the University.

According to the statement, “Consequent upon the rigorous exercise carried out by the National Universities Commission between November and December 2022 concerning academic programmes at Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, the apex regulatory body for the university system in Nigeria has approved full accreditation for 27 academic programs presented during the exercise.

“In a letter signed on behalf of Professor Abubakar Rasheed, Executive Secretary of the commission by the Deputy Director, Programme Accreditation, Architect S.S. Ikani, the results of the exercise are stated as follows for graduate programs: Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Accounting, Transport Management and Master of Business Administration.

“For undergraduate programmes, they are Law, Theatre Arts, Christian Religious Studies, History and International Studies, Banking, and Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Insurance, Transport Management, Tourism Studies, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Mass Communication, Biochemistry, Human Anatomy, Statistics, Physics with Electronic, Microbiology, Mathematics, Industrial Chemistry, Estate Management, Computer Engineering, Electrical, and Electronic Engineering.”
