Religious-Based Violence Will Be Treated as Attack on Nigeria – NSA Ribadu
The Federal Government has warned that any act of violence framed along religious lines will be regarded as a direct attack on the Nigerian state.
The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, stated this while reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting all citizens, regardless of religious affiliation.
Ribadu made the remarks at the end of the first session of the U.S.–Nigeria Joint Working Group held in Abuja, which focused on issues of religious freedom and insecurity.
“Nigeria is a deeply plural society, and the protection of all citizens—Christians, Muslims and those of other beliefs—is non-negotiable,” Ribadu said.
“Violence framed along religious lines is treated as an attack on the Nigerian state itself,” he added.
He said the Federal Government’s approach to addressing insecurity extends beyond military action, combining security operations with the rule of law, humanitarian safeguards and strategic communication.
According to him, this integrated approach is aimed at ensuring that security efforts translate into public confidence and stronger social cohesion.
