Contrary to reports infiltrating both print and online media of an explosion at the Main Campus of the Osun State University in Osogbo on Thursday, a credible source within the university has informed OsunDefender that the explosion was not a bomb or fire explosion.
He said instead of the news of a bomb explosion in the institution, it was an outburst from a fire extinguisher which suddenly went off.
According to the source, the fire extinguisher went off as a result of pressure mounted by a 300-level Anatomy and Physiology student of the university.
His account “The 300-level Anatomy and Physiology students were having lectures this morning. During the lecture, a student asserted pressure on the fire extinguisher by sitting on it .
“Immediately he stood up from the extinguisher, the lid busted due to the pressure mounted on it releasing CO2 into the hall.”
8 Students were said to have been affected by the incident. They are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to the source, all the students are in stable condition.
