Residents in Osun State are expressing their frustration over a recent hike in bread prices, with loaves now costing significantly more.
Osun Defender reports that the bakers increased the price on Saturday. Price of 300 naira bread has risen to 400 naira, while 500 naira bread is now 600 naira. Similarly, the 700 naira variety has increased to 800 naira, and the 1000 naira loaf is now priced at 1,100 naira.
Speaking with Osun Defender on Saturday, Mrs. Adebola John, a resident of Parakin area in Ile Ife, lamented, “This increase is unjustifiable; the size of the bread hasn’t changed.”

Another resident of Ilesa, Oluwatobi Adeyemi, called it “wickedness,” emphasising the burden on families already struggling with rising living costs.
Meanwhile, bakers attributed the hike to soaring ingredient prices.
Alhaji Ganiyu Bakare, the owner of Sucees Bread in Ile Ife, told Osun Defender that, “We had no choice but to adjust prices due to increased costs.”
However, some sellers are resisting these changes. A seller in Osogbo who craved anonymity remarked, “We are trying to keep prices stable for our customers but face pressure from suppliers.”
