Scores of residents and transport workers in Ile Ife, State of Osun, have lauded the Federal Government for rehabilitating and improvements on the roads in the ancient town.
Mr Wale Bamidele, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW), Ile-Ife Branch, Ibadan Bus Unit, commended the Federal Government for rehabilitating roads in Ife kingdom.
He regretted that the bad roads were responsible for frequently breakdown of their vehicles, which made them regular visitors to mechanics and panel beaters.
He also appreciated the top leaders of All Progressive Congress for fulfilling the agreement reached between them and the governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Sen. Iyiola Omisore on the rehabilitation of Ife roads.
The NURTW official was hopeful that the rehabilitation would cover all damaged parts of the roads, especially Mayfair-Lagere, Sabo, Aladanla, Opa among others in the ancient town.
He pleaded for strict supervision of the construction firm carrying the repairs to ensure quality work and timely completion.
Thousands of residents also heaped praises on President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts in executing the 2017 budgetary proposals as regards to the development of road network across the country, saying ‘government has done quite well’.
Mr Ibrahim Olanrewaju who lives at Mayfair area in Ile Ife, expressed appreciation to the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for the prudent management of the nation’s scarce resources, noting that since the beginning of the present administration, the road sector in the country never had it as good as is being currently experienced despite the shortfall in the nation’s revenue generation.
He pointed out that as the efforts and actions of the government to improve the roads were being applauded, it was also necessary to direct its attention to a lot more of the roads that still needed urgent attention, urging him to put in place a mechanism to institutionalize the culture of construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of Federal roads as well as putting necessary instruments that would guard against the abuse of the roads by the road users.
In similar vein, a commercial driver who transports commuters from OAU campus to Sabo, expressed appreciation to the government for matching its words with action.
He commended President Buhari for the on-going rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads across the country, commending the government’s resolve to raise funds from various sources to meet the required funding of roads in the country.
He said the association will support the federal government in all its efforts to put Nigerian roads on course.
