A Legend and former Captain of the Indomitable Lions, Rigobert Song, has been appointed as the country’s men’s football team manager.
The 45-year-old will replace Toni Conceicao, who led the national team to a finish at January’s Africa Cup of Nations.
This development was made public via a statement from Cameroon’s Sports Minister, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
Part of the statement reads, “On very high instructions from the President of the Republic, the coach of the men’s national football team, Mr. Antonio Conceicao, has been replaced by Rigobert Song.
“The Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) is invited to take the necessary measures for a rapid and harmonious implementation of these very high directives.”
Song was a member of the Cameroon national team between 1993 and 2010.
He played for West Ham in England and had spells in France, Italy, Germany, and Turkey during his playing career, also featured at four World Cups and won the 2000 and 2002 Africa Cup of Nations titles.
Recall that another former Cameroonian international, Samuel Eto’o was also elected the country’s Football Association President.
