Rivers Administrator Ibas Misses Reps Committee Meeting Again
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), has failed to appear before the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight, leading to the indefinite postponement of a much-anticipated interactive session aimed at addressing political and administrative developments in the state.
The committee, set up by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and inaugurated on April 15, 2025, initially scheduled the session for April 17.
However, at Ibas’s request, the meeting was shifted to April 24 to accommodate his schedule.
Expectations were high that the administrator would use the platform to clarify key issues surrounding governance in Rivers State since his appointment.
Despite being confirmed to be in Abuja on the day of the meeting—attending the National Economic Council meeting at the Presidential Villa—Vice Admiral Ibas did not show up for the session at the National Assembly Complex.
His absence has sparked renewed concerns over accountability and transparency in the administration of Rivers State.
Further compounding the confusion, it remains uncertain whether a formal invitation was officially received or acknowledged by Ibas.
The committee has so far withheld details regarding the communication process, leaving room for speculation about whether proper procedural steps were followed.
Members of the committee, including Chairman Rep. Julius Ihonvbere, were seen exiting Committee Room 301 without providing any formal statements.
When approached by reporters, Ihonvbere responded tersely with, “No comment,” refusing to elaborate on the situation.
