Rivers Crisis: Wike, Fubara Meet Tinubu in Abuja Amid Reconciliation Moves
Fresh signs of reconciliation have emerged in Rivers State following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the ongoing political crisis.
A source at the Villa told Vanguard that the President held late-night talks in Abuja with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and other key political figures from the state.
While the details of the meeting remain undisclosed, the discussions are believed to focus on resolving the protracted tensions in Rivers State.
Reports indicate that Governor Fubara accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, after the meeting.
Unconfirmed sources also claimed that Fubara appealed to the minister, promising to avoid actions that could be seen as disrespectful, signalling a possible thaw in relations between the two political heavyweights.
The development comes after months of heightened political tension between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, which surfaced shortly after the governor assumed office.
The rift has split the Rivers State House of Assembly into rival factions, triggered impeachment threats, prolonged legal battles, and repeated legislative shutdowns.
The conflict has been widely attributed to a struggle for control over the state’s political direction and party structures.
Previous reconciliation attempts by party leaders had failed to fully bridge the divide, raising concerns over stability and governance in the oil-rich state.
President Tinubu’s intervention is viewed as a strategic move to restore peace, stabilise governance, and prevent further escalation ahead of future political engagements in Rivers State and within the ruling party.
