The Rivers State Government, under Administrator Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd), has suspended all political office holders and appointees following the declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu.

A statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the Administrator confirmed that the suspension affects key officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, who has been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretary.

The Chief of Staff himself has also been suspended.

Honourable Commissioners, Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and Senior Special Assistants have all been affected.

Chairmen and members of boards, agencies, commissions, institutions, and parastatals have been suspended pending further notice.

Those affected must hand over to the most senior officers in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

In cases where no Permanent Secretary is available, the most senior Director or Head of Administration will assume responsibility.

This development follows the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly as part of the emergency measures imposed on the state.

The emergency rule is expected to last for an initial six-month period.
