An interim order restraining the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, from carrying out any action concerning the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been issued by the Rivers State High Court sitting in Isiokpo Division, Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Also restrained are the Deputy Speaker, the Clerk of the House and the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi.
Osun Defender had reported that some assembly members led by the speakers of the house on Monday began the impeachment process on Fubara.
The order was issued by Justice Ben Whyte, following a suit filed by the governor.
Justice Whyte directed that the parties should maintain the status quo, pending the determination of the Motion on Notice.
The judge adjourned the suit to 14 November 2023, for hearing of the motion on notice.
