The political crisis in Rivers State deepened on Wednesday as about 10 bulldozers drove into the premises of the state House of Assembly and started the demolition of the complex.
This came as the factional Speaker, Edison Ehie, led other lawmakers loyal to the governor to hold a sitting early on Wednesday before the demolition began.
The demolition is being done under tight security.
Osun Defender had reported that a High Court Sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, confirmed, Edison Ehie, as the authentic Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly.
Edison Ehie is one of the four lawmakers backing the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the ongoing face-off between him and his immediate predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
The medium also reported that 27 lawmakers who are loyal to Wike dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC on Monday.
Justice M.W. Danagogo, who made the ruling on Tuesday, also ordered Martins Amaewhule and Dumle Maol to stop parading themselves as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The court also warned against using thugs and Police officers to gain access to the Assembly Complex.
