Rivers Saga: My Spirit Has Left There, Not Eager To Return To Office – Fubara
- ‘Opt Out Since Your Spirit Already Left’, Wike Taunts Governor
Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Sunday, said his spirit had left office, insisting that he is not desperate to return to his former role.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that Fubara, alongside his deputy and Rivers State lawmakers, was suspended for six months by President Bola Tinubu.
However, while speaking at the service of songs held in honor of the late elder statesman Edwin Clark in Port Harcourt, Fubara said, “Can’t you see how better I look? Do you think I am interested in it?
“Do you even know if I want to go back there? My spirit had already left that place long ago.” said.
Fubara is believed to have been responding to several speakers at the event, who referred to him as “Governor” and called for immediate reversal.
“Not everything is by Oshogbe, I want everybody to focus, there are some fights you don’t fight,” he said.
Fubara was also said to have urged the attendees to focus on the tribute of Edwin Clark, who lived a selfless life advocating for the Niger Delta region, and not make it about politics.
Responding to Fubara’s remark in a subtle dig, Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, said the suspended governor should simply opt out since his “spirit already left.”
Olayinka in a post on his X account, wrote: “It is not really compulsory to stay in a marriage your spirit already left. Simply opt out legally.”
