Rivers Saga: Nobody Can Undermine My Political Structure – Wike Blows Hot
- Says Impeachment Not Military Coup
Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, said he can not be intimidated, adding that he will do anything to protect and secure the political structure of the state.
He added that no one can undermine his political structure in the state and that the purported impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara is constitutional unlike a military coup.
The Minister said this when the Chairman of PDP Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, and some governors paid him courtesy a visit over the crisis rocking Rivers State.
Osun Defender reports that there has been a fallout between the former Rivers governor, and his godson, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
He also dispelled rumours of interest in monies belonging to Rivers state, adding that nobody could take away his political structure in the state.
“Nobody can intimidate me. If I want to do something, I will do it. Impeachment is not a military coup; it is provided under the Constitution. I’m not interested in all the rumours, money, this, and that. Rubbish. Absolute rubbish. I just left office how many months ago? And I’m FCT Minister, so which money?”
“But nobody can take away our political structure. No one. You cannot work and people will begin to bring enemies, those who fought you when you were struggling for the person to be in office.
“Nobody does that. I’m not a political ingrate, but don’t touch the political structure of the state. I will not shut my eyes,” Wike said.
Osun Defender recalls that similar political differences played out between the former governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and his successor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.
Aregbesola, who became Minister of Interior, eight months after leaving office as Governor was attacked by his successor, who served as his Chief of Staff and was anointed by him to lead the state – a replica of Wike’s endorsement and full support for Fubara.
However, things degenerated when Oyetola began the politics of ‘exclusivity’ and embarked on a campaign to disrupt the party structure put together by Aregbesola, which strongly worked for his emergence and eventual election, a development that polarised the party.
This medium gathered that while the former Minister of Interior sought to mend fences through the reorganisation of the party structure, the immediate-past governor of Osun, embarked on a campaign of calumny against his predecessor, which later led to the loss of his re-election bid.
While Aregbesola called for the strengthening of the political base rather than plotting his successor’s impeachment, Oyetola frustrated all the moves, a situation that led to the loss of the Osun APC in three successive elections in the state.
In Rivers State, Osun Defender learnt the Governor, Mr. Fubara continues to dismantle the political structure left by Mr. Wike. His Chief of Staff, Chief Security Officer, all Local Government Chairmen and the state Chief Judge have all been suspended from office.
