Ruben Dias Signs New Manchester City Contract Until 2029, Calls Club ‘My Home’
Manchester City defender, Ruben Dias, has pledged his long-term future to the Premier League champions after penning a new two-year contract extension that keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until 2029.
The 28-year-old Portugal international, who joined City from Benfica in 2020 for £65m, had three years left on his previous deal, which was due to expire in 2027.
The fresh agreement not only secures his stay for an additional two years but also includes an option for a further 12 months.
Dias has been instrumental in Pep Guardiola’s side since his arrival, winning the Premier League Player of the Year award in his debut season and helping the club to a haul of silverware, including four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the EFL Cup.
Speaking on Friday, the centre-back expressed delight at committing to the club. “I am incredibly happy today. I love Manchester, it is my home now, and I love the Manchester City fans.
“When I think about the trophies we have won and how we have played our football during my time here, I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else,” Dias said.
City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, described Dias as “a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch,” noting that his presence has been crucial to the club’s recent dominance both domestically and in Europe.
Attention is now expected to turn to contract talks with other key players. England defender John Stones and Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva both have one year left on their deals, while goalkeeper Ederson and former captain Ilkay Gundogan are also nearing the end of their contracts.
Spanish midfielder Rodri, playmaker Phil Foden, Swiss defender Manuel Akanji, and Dutch centre-back Nathan Ake all have two years remaining.
